Shirley Bassey
The Remix Album…Diamonds Are Forever

Ms. Bassey. Just saying the name evokes diva-esque. Ms. Bassey has been a true Diva for quite some time and is no stranger to what it takes to make a hit. She was topping the charts before Madonna was born, paving the way for female singers as well as setting the standards. She has performed more ‘James Bond’ theme songs than any other artist. She puts class in the music business, never compromising her artistic integrity for the sake of selling records. She is beautiful, glamorous, and spirited…there is no need to try and pull the wool over the 60-plus Diva’s eyes.

She realized her voice was perfectly suited for dance music after she was asked by the techno wizards Propellerheads to sing on their 1998 hit "History Repeating". She delivered the goods – the song was a Top 40 hit around the world as well as a catalyst for re-launching Shirley Bassey’s career. Deciding to ride that wave, Shirley enlisted hot up-and-coming DJs and remixers, as well as few old friends, to remix her classic hits.

The results are pioneering. The remixes are sexy, fun and full of energy. Shirley Bassey’s striking voice accents these dance tracks like a marriage of two soul mates. Check out the trippy, soulful remix of "Diamonds Are Forever" by Mantronik or the hyper-techno remix of "Light My Fire". Shirley Bassey’s filtered, vocordered voice is euphoric.

For Propellerheads’ Alex Gifford this reunion posed a new challenge. "Being asked to remix a Shirley Bassey song is like being asked to stir a shaken martini -- what can you do but screw it up? That, gentle listener, is for you to decide. But from our point of view the temptation to meddle was just too much to resist."

Originally this CD was only available as an import, but it has now been released domestically. This is one to add to your dance collection. Track number 10, "If You Go Away" will sell you. The electronic, circuit party vibe, dance remix by Moloko and Mark Mrydon is brilliant. Shirley Bassey has just found her new niche.
