Swordfish – The Album - Paul Oakenfold

Remember the movie Dangerous Minds starring Michelle Pffeifer? Where the movie looked as though it sucked (and it did), but after hearing the soundtrack it made you want to see the movie anyway? Well that’s how I felt when I heard this soundtrack to the motion picture Swordfish.

Friends and I were sick of the Halsted scene and decided to take a roadtrip to the suburban bar, Hunters. With them came this CD and several 40-O’s to get the party started right. And it did. I haven’t heard a soundtrack this good since Run Lola Run. Paul Oakenfold, the renowned and highly sought-after DJ and remixer extraordinaire is responsible for this delicious compilation. Need I say more? This CD is Hot, Hot, Hot. Don’t let this 90-degree weather fool you – this soundtrack is even hotter!

Packed with excerpts from the movie, original work and a few remixes, this fifteen-track disc is nonstop trance. The beat starts pounding and never stops from the first track, "The Word", to the last song, "Get Out of My Life Now". This CD will make you dance hard and/or drive fast. A heavy trance influence with a little break beat and a slice of techno complete the recipe for this disc. Paul cleverly weaves his coined web of grabbing you and keeping you listening to his every musical note.

Check out the third track, "Unafraid" featuring Jan Johnston. It will put you in a trance and have you wishing it was Friday night. And the temperature doesn’t fall here – check out "Dark Machine" and the break beat track "Speed". Like only Paul Oakenfold can do, his music is inspirational, giving you the feeling life is good. I’ve always admired his work, especially the U2 remixes of "Better Than the Real Thing", as well as his work with Massive Attack’s "Unfinished Symphony". I’m glad he decided to do something more commercial – his talents should go further than the underground club scene. I’m sure with the success of this soundtrack he will be a household name. This CD is a must-have for all you glow stick, shirtless Boy Wonders. So hop on down to Borderline Music and pick up a copy – you will understand why it’s so hot outside.
