Kosheen is about to step in the mainstream with its debut album Resist. Winning Best Single at the Drum & Bass awards is the catalyst to do that. The trio of Markee Substance, Darren Decoder and Sian Evans are all prodigies of musical backgrounds.

Sian, from Wales is the grandchild of a great jazz musician, spent her teenage years providing vocals for many jazz and R&B recording.

Darren, a Bristol native, spent his formative years playing in punk bands.

Coming together two years ago by sheer force of will, they formed Kosheen and began recording what I would describe one of the best drum and bass albums I’ve ever heard, pushing their creativity and taking their music into different areas. Their music adds layers and layers of depth to the drum and bass style of music. Kosheen is the new dimension of sound with Sian’s strong jazzy vocals dripping down smooth bass lines and sonic break beats. It’s a multiple musical orgasm, gloriously melodic.

‘We love songs and we love beats; it seemed obvious to put them together’, reflects Markee. Sian, who penned most of the tunes written originally as acoustic numbers adds, ‘Working with Markee and Darren is easy because they understand vocals so well. Their music always leaves me room to work in.’

Kosheen’s seventeen track Resist is cutting-edge drum & bass, often leaning toward dance, but just when you think they abandon the true essence of their sound they emerge right back to their atmosphere of sensual drum & bass. There are so many great songs on this CD that I can’t begin to say which are my favorites. But for all you drum & bass connoisseurs, this CD is for you. And for you dance enthusiasts, this is a must check-out. Even if you are not a drum & bass fan, this is a four star album that will provide you with hours of listening pleasure.

And by the way…if you don’t know what drum & bass style of music is, it’s "urban electronic", usually heard at a martini lounge or enjoyed by the underground music lover.
