David Gray – "White Ladder"

David Gray may not be a name you recognize, but you will. This passionate artist has been around a while. David has released three albums in Europe prior to his latest effort. The Manchester lad was born in 1970, raised in Wales. He studied at the University of Liverpool, where he played in punk bands and began to experiment with a more poetic style of writing, which has provided the landscape for his new CD, White Ladder. This CD was self financed, recorded in a London flat, and released on his own label I.H.T. He has great success with this CD in Ireland and the U.K.

Not until he was brought to America by the Dave Matthew’s label, A.T.O., did we get the pleasure of experiencing this enthralling singer.

The first single, "Babylon," has shot up the charts as a cross over hit and has been receiving mass radio play.

The CD is a masterpiece of lyrical poetry and phonic celebration. Fusing many different styles of music, David has captured a sound for 2001. On tracks, such as, "Please forgive me" you will embrace the acoustic melody while entranced by the trip hop beat. On the hyper pop mid tempo song, "Babylon," you will find David’s sometime simply red vocal styling gliding over a sky of melodic grooves. David sings of such passion for love, life and despair. He decorated his songs with lyrics of his experiences on the track, "My oh my." David states; " it takes a lot of love to keep the heart from freezing."

His direction is to make you feel his story telling songs are for the mind, body, and soul. They will draw you in like a moth to a flame.

This is not a rock album, this is not a pop album, this not a dance album, this not an alternative album or a classical album, it is elements of all the above. There is something on this CD, for everyone. After listening to the eleven tracks, you will want more of this prolific artist.
