Cafe Del Mar
For the last twenty years Ibiza’s Café Del Mar has stood as "a tribute to the sunset", a resort and night club that has attracted vacationers, sojourners, and glitterati from around the world. The resorts resident DJ Jose Padilla began compiling albums of lush ambient music that he felt captured the spirit of Café Del Mar and Ibiza. The series has grown enormously popular – now with the U.S. release of Volume Seven the Café Del Mar is about to conquer us. Compilation CDs are so often filled with cheesy, Top 40 mainstream artists, but Café Del Mar doesn’t fit into that genre. Like the Spanish island of Ibiza, Café Del Mar is breathtaking. The music provides a mood-inspiring backdrop for any occasion. It’s like taking a vacation where the air is clear and your mind is free to think of everything, yet nothing. This CD captures the elements of mind, body and soul. Its hypnotic grooves will keep you soaring for hours. I can’t believe that I have found a compilation where I like every song – the remixes are passionate and the originals are exquisite. Volume Seven was compiled by DJ Bruno, and he did a stylish job of bringing this vast array of artists together on one CD and staying true to the spirit of Ibiza. It is a painted masterpiece filled with texture and color. The 13-track collection weaves together a beautiful quilt of electronica that will warm your soul and bathe you in a pool of introspective phonics. The new track by Moby is one of this best works yet, leaving sampled vocals behind and riding his own monotone melody, he takes you on a dream escape. Just when you start to like the album it gets better. The N.O.W. mix of Bush’s "Letting the Cables Sleep" is sweet mind-candy. This song gave me a new respect for Bush. Your mind is now at peace with the universe (and with your purchase), and then DJ Bruno throws in Aromabar’s "Winter Pageant". The voice is innocent and confident, the music is euphoric and compelling. Café Del Mar (Volume Seven) is a compilation worth having in your collection, even if electronica is not your taste of music. This CD is done with sophistication – play it at a dinner party or a cocktail party and your friends will be sure to think that you are hip!
