No More Drama – Mary J. Blige

The queen of hip-hop is back!!! This time around Mary has stopped the heartbreak and left the drama far behind. Her take on modern R&B is vivacious and for once Mary is happy and she is letting the world know it.

Unlike her debut album, What’s The 411? She is representing emotional growth, spirituality and passion for life. Looking in the core of her soul and the mirror of her life, Mary brings us sixteen blazing tracks that are pure pop/ hip-hop. The lyrics are from the heart, her voice is wonderous and the music sizzling. Mary is one of the rare artists that puts her mind, body and soul into her singing. You feel her passion and deeply relate to her vibe. The album is confident and rich. Working with notable producers has always been Mary’s secret to putting out great music.

The first single, "Family Affair", is produced by Dr. Dre. Stamped with his signature head-bopping beat and his masterful craft for creating catchy grooves. Mary sings this song like a pop pioneer, sure to make Destiny’s Child Beyonce nervous. This CD has so many hits – there are no B-sides on the disc! Teaming up again with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, whom Mary has collaborated with since Share My World, brings us the most creative song on the disc.

We all know Mary is the sample guru. She will sample anything. This time Mary goes even more obscure. The title track "No More Drama" is a song about determination and moving ahead. The mid-tempo track opens with the instrumental theme from The Young & The Restless. The sista has sampled a soap opera. I must give it up for her, the song is cool. Mary’s burnished voice is a perfect blend with this light gospel-influenced track.

Mary says, ‘Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis wrote it without me and when I hear it I was like…do you have a private detective following me around, because this song is so where I’m at. This song is demanding that you stay away from my life if you’re going to bring me drama.’

Another song taken from an episode of this M.A.C. cosmetics spokesperson’s life is "Never Been", produced and penned by good friend Missy Elliot. "Never Been" is a song that tapped into Mary’s soul and speaks of her faith. ‘I didn’t have a relationship when I heard "Never Been", but I knew love would come and it didn’t have to come from a man. I came from The Man…and God gave me the self-love, and from that I was able to draw even more love.’

Mary has a very musically successful career, not void of personal ups and downs, which were often reflected in her music. No More Drama is a hip-hop brilliance. It’s all Mary J. Blige. This respected artist has brought us hits in the past and No More Drama picks up where her last album left off. Check out other collaborations on this disk with hot rapper Eve and rocker Lenny Kravitz. I think this drama queen has just released the best hip-hop album of the year, so experience her amazement.
