Britney Spears - Britney Oops – Britney Did It Again. Like her last two albums, Britney has released another predictable pop CD. The only difference this time around? It’s a popsicle. It’s cold, impersonal, and very hard to relate to (maybe that’s because I’m not a teenage girl). Nevertheless, the first single "I’m A Slave 4 U" has promise. Even though it sounds exactly like the 1985 Vanity 6 hit "Nasty Girl". It’s a vibing tune, perfect for Britney’s not-so-perfect voice. Britney collaborated with big names in the pop-producer arena (Rodney Jenkins, Neptune Max Martin) and even got a hand in songwriting from fellow singers Dido and Justin Timberlake. Still, with all that backing there isn’t one song with any cutting edge to it, which you would expect from Britney at this point in her career. "Lonely" reveals Brit’s try at a funk song. The Destiny’s Child-flavor song "Let Me Be" finds Britney attempting to ride the hip-hop wave. Britney’s cover of Joan Jett’s "I Love Rock ‘n Roll" is pleasantly a good song for Brit’s sassy style, but the tough-girl guitar and the roaring riffs often drown out her voice. I’m sure this self-titled CD will be a commercial hit (because it will be fueled by her upcoming motion picture debut "Crossroads"), but I think that Britney could do much better. She is a talented young lady. Britney should tap into her own girl power groove and ride that instead of following the latest trends. It will translate better and show growth in Britney as an artist. If you are looking for a popsicle in the middle of December, go for it!! But I’m going to pass – I’m looking for something a little warmer.
